The Malilangwe Trust is a proudly Zimbabwean, non-profit organisation. Our conservation activities are focused within 50 000 ha of the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve in south-eastern Zimbabwe. We are committed to several projects which contribute to uplifting the lives of people who live in our neighbouring communities along the borders of the Reserve.
Since establishment of The Malilangwe Trust in 1994, our goal is to develop and implement methods for successful conservation and protection of wildlife, with the aim of becoming a leader in science-based management of African protected areas. Through education and tourism, our hope is to inspire people to become ambassadors for conservation.

Practice makes predators...
For now, every stalk ends in a playful tackle, and every ambush earns a patient response from mum.
Leopards are solitary hunters, yet cubs remain with their mothers for up to two years, learning through observation, imitation and experience before venturing out on their own. Every successful hunt and every missed opportunity
is another lesson, refining the skills needed to become an independent predator.

Not every conservation professional wears boots. 🐾
Now all grown up, Ellie has cemented her place in the team, with her training continuing to go from strength to strength.
Depending on the breed, a dog’s nose can contain up to 300 million scent receptors, enabling trained detection dogs to locate even the faintest odour traces with extraordinary accuracy. This exceptional olfactory capability makes Ellie an invaluable asset in supporting Malilangwe’s anti-poaching operations, helping to protect Zimbabwe’s wildlife heritage.

A favourite vantage point for good reason.
Elevated positions offer a wide field of view, allowing lions to detect potential prey, rivals, and approaching threats, all while enjoying the cooler air that comes with higher ground.
Malilangwe’s ongoing census and photo identification library using whisker pattern identification and other unique features is continuously updated. This information contributes to the African Lion Database whilst providing the foundation to accurately model the populations overall effect on prey and competitor species within the reserve.

The prince of the bushveld.
Unlike many antelopes that instinctively flee, sable bulls are fierce and courageous when cornered or threatened. They will often turn towards threats, utilising their impressive weaponry.
