The Malilangwe Trust is proud to be joining the 2026 #wildliferangerchallenge standing alongside ranger teams from across Africa in support of the men and women protecting the continent’s wildlife and wild places.
In 2025, the Challenge united 150 four-person teams from 62 ranger organisations, raising US$3.35 million to strengthen frontline conservation. This year, we’re ready to do it again.💪🏼
Behind every thriving wildlife population and protected habitat is a ranger who has walked countless kilometres, endured long days and sleepless nights, and remained steadfast in their commitment to protecting the irreplaceable remaining wilderness areas. Yet the challenges facing rangers continue to grow, and so too does the need for meaningful support. Through July, August and September our Scouts are participating in a number of varying challenges; culminating in the 21km pack run on Sept 19th.

Some of the greatest achievements in conservation are rarely witnessed. They are measured by a poaching incident prevented, in the countless kilometres of patrols across every season away from loved ones, an endangered species that continues to recover, and via the next generation that is inspired through quiet discipline and a motivating attitude. As the frontline guardians of a changing planet, Malilangwe’s Scouts are not only safeguarding wildlife today, they are helping secure a future where Zimbabwe’s wildlife heritage continues to flourish.
Across Africa, scouts and rangers stand at the intersection of biodiversity conservation, ecosystem resilience and human livelihoods; safeguarding landscapes that are continually shaped by external pressures and an increasingly busy world. Every patrol and animal monitored, and every meaningful engagement with communities contributes to something far greater than a day’s work and we are incredibly grateful for their professionalism, resolve and courage - THANKYOU.
We also honour the memory and legacy of our fallen colleagues and their families across the continent that have given the ultimate sacrifice. Their legacy lives on in the wild places and species safeguarded and in the future generations that will inherit and benefit from the remarkable natural world they dedicated their lives to protecting.

For thousands of years, the sandstone hills of Malilangwe have watched over the Lowveld, shaped by time and standing resilient through the changing seasons. Today they form the heart of one of Zimbabwe’s most biodiverse protected landscapes.
Their rugged slopes and hidden valleys create a rich mosaic of habitats that support an extraordinary diversity of plants and wildlife. From elusive predators and breeding raptors to unique reptiles, pollinating insects and ancient trees rooted firmly amongst the rocks.

For now, every stalk ends in a playful tackle, and every ambush earns a patient response from mum.
Leopards are solitary hunters, yet cubs remain with their mothers for up to two years, learning through observation, imitation and experience before venturing out on their own. Every successful hunt and every missed opportunity
is another lesson, refining the skills needed to become an independent predator.

Not every conservation professional wears boots. 🐾
Now all grown up, Ellie has cemented her place in the team, with her training continuing to go from strength to strength.
Depending on the breed, a dog’s nose can contain up to 300 million scent receptors, enabling trained detection dogs to locate even the faintest odour traces with extraordinary accuracy. This exceptional olfactory capability makes Ellie an invaluable asset in supporting Malilangwe’s anti-poaching operations, helping to protect Zimbabwe’s wildlife heritage.
