One of Malilangwe’s objectives is to make a material and long-lasting contribution to the economy and lives of people living in the south-eastern lowveld of Zimbabwe. Within our community projects, we have noticed women taking on more responsibilities for their homes, communities and the environment. Through job creation, capacity building workshops and farming projects, these women have enhanced skills, contribute financially, accomplish some of their goals and feel empowered.
Girls living in rural Zimbabwe have not been afforded the same educational opportunities as boys and often girls are forced into child marriages, resulting in early pregnancies, where the girl’s future is limited to staying home to support her family and extended families.
To create change we must give these girls access to better opportunities in education, health and the power to make their own decisions.
