For over three decades, the Trust has been dedicated to the science-based conservation of the Malilangwe ecosystem, with the ambition of developing conservation models that are both rigorous and broadly replicable; setting a benchmark for protected area management across Africa.
The effectiveness of this approach is reflected in our rhino conservation efforts, which have helped restore populations once on the brink of regional extinction. Today, our work is further advanced through a growing body of research, including more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, and supported by our Animal Population Management Database – an archive of over 400,000 biological records that provides critical depth and continuity to our scientific inquiry.
Alongside ecological research, the Trust recognizes that human history is inseparable from the landscapes we seek to protect. By preserving the Reserve’s rich cultural heritage, including its rock art sites and historical artifacts, we contribute to a more holistic understanding of human-environment interactions and African anthropology.
