Malilangwe partners with Girl Child Empowerment Trust (GCET) whose goal is to develop young women who are confident, socially adjusted, and economically empowered. We host and fund the week-long educational camp which is held bi-annually during April and August school holidays at Hakamela Camp, whose conference centre and garden are the ideal location for daily lectures and workshops, and for groups of girls to interact.
Each girl child empowerment camp is offered to 30 girls chosen from ten neighbouring community schools. During the week the girls are enlightened by guest speakers who are professionals in their own fields about an array of topics. The course covers personal and reproductive health rights in Zimbabwean law, puberty, menstruation and feminine hygiene, the effects of HIV/AIDS, and breast and cervical cancers. They learn about the importance of women having an education and the guest speakers offer career guidance. The girls are counselled on emotional and mental issues, including the effects of bullying. The course equips the girls with an array of life skills which include financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
GCET was established in 2012 by Morenlet Muravu, whose passion as a mother, teacher, social worker, and motivational speaker is to develop girls to their full potential.
