Pandeni Chitimela

Research Technician

“I am a conservationist at heart, and I want ensure that Malilangwe’s wildlife is safe, and that the flora and fauna will be around for future generations.”

Pandeni grew up with an innate passion to protect animals. In 1997 he enrolled in the Malilangwe scouts’ selection course and was recruited. During his five years as a scout, Pandeni developed a fascination for the flora and fauna of Malilangwe, learning the different vegetation types while he collected accurate and meaningful data about the wildlife. Pandeni’s enthusiasm led to him being selected as Malilangwe’s Research Technician in 2003, where he has further trained and continues to broaden his skills set. Pandeni is predominantly responsible for the input of daily data into Malilangwe’s rhino database, which allows him to have an integral and in-depth knowledge of all our rhinos. He also accompanies student researchers into the field to assist with projects.
