E-Learning

Malilangwe offers young people in neighbouring schools the opportunity to access computer technology through e-learning labs, where students can access an educational curriculum which is based on the Zimbabwean school syllabus. There are not many rural schools who have access to computer technology, and this experience prepares students for employment possibilities in the future.

The eco-friendly classrooms are powered by solar energy and one of the labs is fitted with a tank to store harvested rainwater. Teachers are trained in e-learning and then introduce their students to the computers and e-learning principles. The e-Learning labs are a collaboration between The Malilangwe Trust and other organisations who have sponsored the equipment and technology.

Mwenje Primary School

An e-learning lab was set up at Mwenje Primary School in 2016. The classroom is furnished for 50 students together with 50 laptops and is equipped with a projector and laptop charging stations. The children have embraced this modern technology and over 400 students are benefitting from the e-learning classes each school day. The classroom was officially opened by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in September 2019.

Benzi and Makosiya Primary Schools

A further two e-Learning labs have been set up at Benzi and Makosiya Primary Schools. Each school has 50 tablets for the students and teachers, and a mirror content server which broadcasts lessons through WLAN and allows content to be downloaded so that the students can work offline. The content server receives updates from the main server in Harare through cellular data. The labs are solar-powered and have charging facilities for the tablets. The project was completed at the end of 2021 and when fully functional, a total of 680 students from Benzi Primary School and 580 from Makosiya Primary School will benefit from these facilities.

Dhumisani Secondary School

In 2024, through partnerships with two generous donors and Malilangwe, Dhumisani Secondary School established its first e-learning lab. This will provide continuity to the e-learning curriculum for the three primary schools whose students will naturally progress to continue their secondary education at Dhumisani. We have refurbished two old classrooms to convert into a secure e-learning lab and have installed solar powered electricity and hardware. 413 students in this secondary school will benefit from e-learning when the project is complete.
