Health and Wellness

Malilangwe Clinic

Malilangwe Clinic is an onsite health facility which serves all employees and their resident dependents. A Registered General Nurse oversees the clinic, supported by an Emergency Medical Technician, Nurse Aide and Environmental Health Technician. We have a contracted on-site paramedic at our Head Office who also assists at the Clinic when needed. The nurse is responsible for case management and treatments, patient care and recovery, controlling the spread of diseases and onward referrals to hospital when necessary. Employees are encouraged to know their HIV status so that they can be issued with medicines that best suit them.

Through our relationship with The Ministry of Health and Child Welfare, we have ample stocks of basic drugs which are dispensed by the clinic allowing for patients to be treated in the best way possible.

As Malilangwe is in a malaria area, the health team is proactive in preventing the spread of malaria by ensuring that prophylaxes are issued, and environmental upkeep is maintained through vector spraying and mosquito nets. Other services available at Malilangwe’s Clinic for our staff are family planning, maternity and baby wellness, testing for blood sugar, malaria, cholera, COVID and HIV/AIDS. The clinic has an onsite ambulance for emergencies, supported by the Paramedic and Emergency Medical Technician.

Our health education

Health & Safety and Wellness Education

Health and hygiene lectures are delivered by the clinic team to Malilangwe staff and to students of the Junior Ranger Programme, Girl Child Empowerment camp and recipients of RESCUWS products.

Information about contagious diseases is disseminated through notices and workshops. The health team offers counsel on HIV/AIDS, diabetes and cancer and they conduct regular awareness events which are reinforced with drama, dance, and song through Malilangwe’s peer educators.

Basic First Aid training is carried out by our onsite paramedic to all staff, Junior Rangers and any other courses hosted by Malilangwe who specifically request this service. A team of Malilangwe staff attend Advanced First Aid training, which is conducted every two years by a contracted ambulance service.

Sports & Recreation Facilities

Happy and healthy surroundings are conducive to a positive working environment and Malilangwe augments this with various sports and recreation facilities. Staff have access to playgrounds, soccer fields and amenities for volleyball and netball. The scouts take a lead role in Malilangwe’s fitness and encourage their colleagues and children to join them in training in the gym, or on the field.

Malilangwe holds an annual sports day, which is combined with the end-of-year Christmas party. Inter-departmental competitions for various trophies include 100m running races, tug-of-war and the coveted Nduna Cup for the best soccer team at Malilangwe.

Malilangwe’s Vegetable Gardens

A variety of vegetables, herbs and fruits are available in Malilangwe’s seasonal gardens, where staff can purchase fresh produce on a cost recovery basis. The gardens are tended by staff members, who are trained in irrigation, composting, crop rotation, care and maintenance of the gardens.
