Our People

The Malilangwe Trust employs over 300 Zimbabweans, who all contribute towards the Trust’s conservation and community development goals. The Trust aims to provide a fair, fulfilling and purpose driven place to work, which is underpinned by its values and objectives. Our staff are passionate about what they do and we strive to be an example for similar organisations in Africa.

The Trust and its strategic projects are led by several key staff:

Mr. Mark Saunders – Executive Director

Originally from the Lowveld, Mark is the son of the well-known Dr. Colin Saunders who was the chief medical officer at the Triangle Hospital for many years. Mark started his career in the commercial agricultural sector and later moved into agricultural input supply. He has always had a passion for conservation – perhaps a legacy from his childhood, when his father was the chairman of the Parks and Wildlife Board. Mark ultimately returned to his passion in 2010, taking over as executive director of the Malilangwe Trust.

Mr. Colin Wenham – Wildlife & Estate Manager

Colin is the wildlife and estate manager and provides the day-to-day guidance for all conservation-related activities at the Trust. He is a true conservationist and has been involved in wildlife conservation for over 30 years, originally working for the famous Clem Coetzee. Colin began working at the Trust at its inception in 1994 and has remained central to the Trust’s conservation work since.

Mr. Shepherd Mawire – Community Development Project Co-ordinator

As Community Development Project Co-ordinator, Shepherd plays a pivotal role in the roll-out of the Trust’s Neighbourhood Outreach Projects. He is also the lead instructor on the Trust’s Conservation Education Program, teaching grade 6 students from community schools around Malilangwe. Shepherd’s passion for community outreach and development was ignited during his time with Raleigh International and Outward Bound Zimbabwe. Shepherd started at the Trust in 2006 and is a critical part of our success on the community development front.
